We remember in prayer today sister WenWen and Voice of Gospel Radio. We give thanks to God for His gift of new life in Christ Jesus.
Recently we celebrated Resurrection Sunday. Many ladies and young women were dressed in lovely new colorful dresses. These dresses symbolized the new life a believer has in Christ Jesus.
Last Post we talked about how God clothes us with the garments of salvation and covers us with the robe of righteousness. This is the undergarment.
Let's look now at what God expects of us as Christian women. Let's learn more about the outer garments.
Romans 13:14 NIV says: Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. [Or the flesh]
Galatians 3:27 NASB: For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Ephesians 4:24 NASB: and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Colossians 3:10 NASB: and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him—
Colossians 3:12-14 NASB: So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
STUDY OF THE WORD:
Thayer's Lexicon has this to say about "clothe" in these verses..
"to become so possessed of the mind of Christ as in thought, feeling and action to resemble Him, and as it were, reproduce the life He lived."
The Greek word, endyo, translated as clothe or "put on" means to clothe oneself, to literally sink into a garment.
Let's study each of these last two passages in context.
Ephesians 4:17-32 NLT
Living as Children of Light
17 With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity. 20 But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. 26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
28 If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. 29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Colossians 3:1-17 NASB
Put On the New Self
"Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father."
LIFE APPLICATION:
Please take time this week to study, meditate on, and commit to memory these verses. Each morning, make it your goal to obey what these commands teach. Write down ten things you will begin to do immediately. Example: Read the Bible regularly, and write out some songs of praise and thanksgiving. Share with others! Send your song to sister WenWen for her to post on the blog radio program. Remember, being filled with the Holy Spirit empowers us to live a righteous life. Find another woman and be accountable for how you dress each day!
